WELL MAN PRoSTATE TOURNAMENT Held at Edgeware Wed 2nd November 2022

A mixture of players attended this 6 a side tournament in aid of Prostate awareness.. We took a 8 man squad with a combined age of 517 years to this tournament.. The oldest being 75 year old Russell, then we had Andreas 69, Tony Fajardo 69, Ivan 66, Ian 67, Johnny G 56 and Lenny 52. Vince 63, also attended as a non playing member of the squad

This tournament was supposed to be for Over 55's, but the organisers were being lenient on the age restriction, so much so, that one team in our group had three players under the age of thirty!.. So much for fair play.

With the best will in the world we were always going to struggle against younger, fitter teams.  But the boys played some solid passing football and managed three draws and one loss to a hotly disputed goal, where everybody except the Referee saw the ball had gone of for a throw in before being recycled and a goal scored from a illegal move!

Russell at the grand old age of 75 was our goal scorer on the day, after receiving the ball in front of goal he threw a dummy and sold the keeper before slotting past him.

Ravens over 50's crowned champions in the Amateur football Alliance October Festival. 16.10.22

The Over 50's travelled into south London on sunday 16th October to take part in the Amateur football alliance Festival trophy, and came home with the spoils after some great performances throughout the competition.

The tournament was two leagues of 6 teams, with the winners of each league meeting in the final to play off for the Trophy.

We were in a group with the following: London Irish, Lambeth Walkers, Millwall Jaguars, West Ham & Pimlico Burgundians.

Game 1 :  Ravens 5 V 0  Millwall Jaguars

A pretty straight forward win for the Ravens against a weak Millwall side. Lenny got himself a hat trick , Steve Shine and Steve House helped themseleves to the others.

Game 2 :  Ravens 1 V 1 Pimlico Burgundians

Tougher opposition in this game came from a very resiliant Pimlico Burgundians who soaked up all the pressure we were putting on them after we went one up, then nicked a late equaliser to share the spoils.  Vince got our goal.

Game 3 : Ravens 1 v 0 Lambeth Walkers

Another tough game, but to be honest there was only ever going to be one winner with our defence rock solid and the midfield creating plenty of good chances.

Vince got this goal.

Game 4: Ravens 4  V 0  West Ham

While we were always on top the scoreline flatters us a little as West ham gave it there best shot, but were not getting the run of the ball, or on a few occasions, the decisions.

Lenny 2 goals, Steve House 2 goals.

Game 5: Ravens 1 - 1 Londondon Irish

We went into this game requiring at least a point to win the group winners spot in the final, and Lodon Irish also needed to win to secure the final slot.

Ravens came out of the traps well and dominated the early play coming close on a couple of occasions.  The pressure finally paid off with the Ravens being awarded a penalty for a defender entering the area, only for Steve see his well taken strike saved by a very competent goalkeeper.

The Irish were inspired by this change in fortunes and went on to level the score after some good solid play, leaving us looking at  missing out on a spot in the final.. But with the seconds ticking away and with virtually the last kick of the game Vince hit a hopeful long range effort that found the inside of the post and rolled over  the line into the net.

Vince 1 goal.

Final game:  Ravens 2 v 1 Pimlico

A very keenly contested final saw the best two teams on the day play out an exciting fast paced final, with both sides having good spells.

Ravens went one up from another long range strike form Vince... spurred on pimlico hit back with an equaliser after some good interplay.

Again with the clock ticking down, vince picked up the ball just over the half way line and fired in a curling shot that the unsighted Pimlico keeper was unable to reach.  With the lead secured the Ravens got behind the ball and played a good defensive game to hold on to a well earned victory.

Vince 2 goals.

Hertfordshire league taster session.

Four teams based in Hertfordshire met at Cheshunt FC to play a friendly round robin taster for a proposed Hertfordshire League.

the proposed league is for over over 65s, but allows for two players in any given match day squad to be aged between 60 and 65.

taking part were the hosts Cheshunt, Welwyn, Hemel and the Ravens.

We had a very enjoyable day, with some mixed results, that on another day could so easily have been three wins for us.

Our first game saw us up against a resiliant Hemal side, with their goalkeeper on good form.  A keenly contested event saw honours even at the end of play with a 1 - 1 draw.

Game two saw us take on the hosts, and our local rivals Cheshunt FC.  Lady luck was not too kind to us as we were beaten 1 - 0 by a hotly disputed goal, in a game where we always felt in control, we tested their keeper on several occasions, only to be kept out by fine saves and the woodwork.

Our final game saw us come up aginst our old friends Welwyn, which again saw a very evenly matched game that finally went our way after a well worked passing move saw Tony Warwick slot home from the edge of the box from a cross field pass ensuring we took the victory 1 - 0..

Central Middlesex league over 50's & 60's

MIDDLESEX CENTRAL LEAGUE (Match day one 25th Setember 2022)

Our first ever league fixtures brought the club some varied results when we played the first round of fixture in the Central Middlesex league at the Power league grounds in Sunbury, Middlesex on a very nice for football kind of day.

We had entered 3 teams into two leagues, one the Over 50's and two into the over 60's.  Unfortunately due to various circumstances we had to travel with a very depleted 60's B team, so much so that we were required to field players from the A team to make up the numbers when the B team were playing, and had to borrow players from another club when both The A & B sides had to play each other in a fixture.

Needless to say this did not help in any way as we had no cohesion in any of the games the 60's were involved in.  But credit to the lads as they battled through without complaint and fufilled all the fixture required of them.

The Over 50's faired a bit better, having a settled side they were able to produce some good football to see them through most of the games, losing only their opening game to a good Barnet side after a couple of silly mistakes took the gloss of a good performace and having totally bossed the game.

Players who got on the scoresheet in these fixture were:  Vince 3, Steve 4, Lenny 2,  Paul Fletcher 3, Russell 1, Tony Warwick 1, Andres 1,

PLAYER OF THE DAY :  Tony King (Over 50's)    :  Tony Warwick (Over 60's)

Raven's Over 60's A      0    V    4      Feltham

The 60's "B" team recorded the following scorlines in their games.     (Team now withdrawn from League)

Raven's Over 60's B    0     V     2      Barnet Black and Amber

Raven's Over 60's B    1     V     4      Raven's Over 60's A

Raven's Over 50's      2     V     1      Staines

MIDDLESEX CENTRAL LEAGUE (Match day Two 30th October 2022)

Round two of the Central league fixtures saw us having to drop our Over 60's B team from the league, simply  being unable to get enough players to compete on a regular basis.

So it was with just one over 60's side competeing that we thought things would improve for our older lads, but unfortunately this was not to be!

They were unable to record a moral boosting win, losing all three of their games.. But it has to be said, they did play without a regular goalkeeper, who pulled out sick the night before,  and a patched up side.. So hopefully when the regular keeper returns and another couple of squad players are available we may see an improvement in results for this spirited bunch of lads.

Meanwhile the Over 50's currently sitting in second place  , with two wins and three draws from their fixtures on the day did a bit better.. This was even better then it sounds, as the 50's had to start with a player short after a issue at home meant they lost a player from an already bare bones side.  We then had to use an over 60's player to fill the gaps as we went along.

The 50's  team recorded the following scorlines in their games.

Raven's Over 50's      0     V     0     Barnet

Raven's Over 50's      0     V     0      Lambeth Walkers

Raven's Over 50's      1     V     0      Wealdstone

Raven's Over 50's      2     V     2      Feltham

Raven's Over 50's      2     V     0      Staines

Goal scorers for Ravens were :  Vince 2, Lenny 2, Steve House 1

The 60's "A" team recorded the following scorlines in their games.

Raven's Over 60's A      0     V   4     Barnet Blue

Raven's Over 60's A      0    V    7    Barnet Black and Amber

Raven's Over 60's A      2   V     4      Feltham

Goal scorers for Ravens were : Ian Law 1, Andres 1.

Friendly Fixture Away to Watford at the Dome 26.06.22

On a very warm Sunday evening we travelled around the M25 , headed to London Colney to visit Watford Walking football club, where we played a series of games between two teams from each club in the impressive Dome facility at Watford FC training ground.

Thr Raven's fielded their over 50's (Red & White) and the Over 60's (Red & Black) against the Watford Blues and Watford Yellows.  The series of games were all very close, With Both the Ravens team's going down by the odd goal in the first encounters between Over 50's V Watford Blues and the Over 60's V Watford Yellows..

The second round of Fixtures saw the over 50's again being beten by the odd goal in a 2 - 1 defeat to the Watford Yellows side, with Steve getting the Ravens goal. Meanwhile the over 60's earnt a respectable 1 - 1 draw with the stronger Watford blues in a very keenly contested game, the highlight of which being the goal from Raven's club Chairman Tony Fajardo, who neatly converted a pass from a quickly taken free kick to slot the ball past the unsighted Watford keeper.

The third round of fixtures saw the Ravens over 50's take on the over 60's in a game where very little quarter was given by either side, resulting in a hard fought scoreless draw, thus giving the bragging rights to the older lads over the 50's side.

Watford Blues beat the their Yellows by 2 -  0 to ensure they finished the evening as the only unbeaten side.

We would like to thank Gien and all his fellow Watford team mates for their hospitality and sportsmanship on a very enjoyale evening for all .

Round robin at Welwyn 19th May 2022

Cheshunt Ravens Over 60's 19/05/22

John Sands, Ian Law, Andres Failde, Tony Fajardo, Tony Warwick.

Vince Maher, Alam Zaman, Nick Gregorio.

The Bubble has finally burst for the Over 60's side.

Having won all of their 5 previous mini competitions since being formed, the Raven's had their wings clipped today, and were brought down to earth with a bump at this Round robin event held at Welwyn.

Playing three games in very warm conditions against Watford, Barnet and Welwyn respectively.

Our first opponents Watford were a good side and things were evenly matched in this game, which resulted in a 1 - 1 draw.  The main highlight of which was Tony Warwick's unstopable drive that the Watford keeper had no chance of saving.

The second game saw us up against a very much younger and stronger Barnet side, who were always on top in a game refereed by their manager that saw the Ravens humbled 0 - 3.

Last up we played against a much improved Welwyn side that had a goalkeeper who was in outstanding form, and not going to be beaten, no matter what we threw at him.

Welwyn deservedly ran out 2 - 0   winners.

Friendly fixture away to Hertford. 07/05/22

ravens Over 50s   2 V 2    Hertford Town  on 7th May 2022

The over 50's travelled to Hertford for this friendly fixture with 5 players making their debut for the club at this age group.

Tony King, Dave L , Steve, Fred and Lenny went straight into action, alongside Colin Moore, Vince and Diesel., and all of them put up a good performance.  We took an early lead and then added to it in the 2nd half. From the start we showed a better range of passing and inter team play, but a lack of discipline and positional play in the second half allowed Hertford to claw back the two goals, ensuring honours were even in this, the first ever fixture between the two club.

It looks like we have the makings of a solid team for the future, once the new players start to find a consitant level of play.

Ravens Over 60's     5 V 2    Hertford Town mixed

The over 60's playing against a mixed age group side made of of Hertford players soon found themselves 2 goals down.. Claiming afterwards that they had been taking it easy!  The team were reduced to 6 players from  quite early on when Paul Fletcher pulled a hamstring.. Being without any subs the team soon found another gear and started to play a more concentrated passing game, and this seemed to do the trick for them, as they went on to score five without further reply from Hertford.

Goal scoreres were Tony Fajard, Dave Scales, Derek Wilson and Andres Failde with a brace.

Many thanks to the Hertford lads for hosting us and we look forward to playing them again in the future.

4 Team friendly Round robin at Hemel Hempstead on Wednesday 13th April 2022.

This was a close fought round robin tournament between Hemel Blues, Hemel Greens, Cheshunt Ravens & Waltham Abbey.

Our opening game saw us up againsts Hemel greens, which proved to be a enjoyable encounter with both sides scoring early on, Tony Warwick netting for the Ravens after a well constructed passing movement involving most of the team.  Both sides had good chances to seal a victory, but some resiliant defences and excellent goal keeping at both ends ensured honours were kept even and the game finished a 1 - 1 draw.

Game two saw us come up against the Hemel blues in another tight game, with few chances to speak of, as both sides dug in to play out a 0 - 0 draw.

Going in to the last game against our old friends and rivals Waltham abbey we badly needed to win, but knew the Abbey side would raise their game against us, if only for the bragging rights!  The game was played in the usual spirit, with chances falling to both sides, and again both goalkeepers were in fine form ensuring the first half ended with no score on the board.  A couple of substitutions at half time saw a change in fortunes for the Ravens who upped the pressure in the second half, finding a rhytm to their passing game and it was not long before they found a way past the England over 50's goalkeeper Jeremy Newell, who up to that point was having a fine game. The relentless pressure soon took it's toll and the Ravens went on the find a way past him another couple of times to put the the game to bed at a score of 3 - 0 before the final whistle. Scorers for Ravens were : Dave Scales, Tony Warwick & Vince Maher.

Having finished on a high note it was a pleasant surprise to find that we had won the tournament by the virtue of goal difference against the Hemel blues who had conceeded 2 goals compaired to our 1 against.  A big well done to all the players who turned out:  John Sands, Tony Fajardo, Tony Warwick, Nick DiGregorio, Andres Failde, Dave Scales, Kevin Hennessy & Vince Maher.

Extra Time Welwyn, Watford and Cheshunt Ravens Mixed Over 60/65's Mini tournament, Friday 25th March 2022

Today the Over 60's were on their travels again, this time to play in a mini tournament against Extra time Welwyn A & B, and Watford.

The games were played in glorious sunshine at The Welwyn Garden city ground.  Again the Ravens were to come away as the tournament winners in a close run competition.

The first game saw the Ravens play against the Welwyn A side in a well contested game, with both sides having some good spells of possesion.

We took the lead through a goal from Roland, but were unable to hold on as Welwyn forced a equaliser.  Then the Ravens finally took control of the game to run out winners by two goals to one with Roland scoring the winner in the last minute of the game .

Game two saw us come up against the resolute Watford side that had just played a 0 - 0 drawn game with Welwyn B.  Cheshunt Ravens started the brighter of the two sides and soon took control of the game with some crisp passing and resolute defending.  Watford fought back and a goal apiece had the game tied for a while, but again the ravens found their edge to score a further two goals and finish the game as worthy winners by 3 - 1.  Goals from Nick and Vince (2) doing the damage in this game.

Meanwhile in the other game Welwyn A & B fought out a no score draw.. This meant that whatever the score in our final game against Welwyn B, we would be the overall winners as we now had 6 points and could not be caught.

With this comfort zone we seemed to lose our shape and discipline in the final game, with our passing and defending not to to our standard of the first two games.  And so it proved to be our downfall as we lost by two goals to nil, in what was a bit of a scrappy match, but that is not to take away from a solid Welwyn B performance who were worthy winners.

West Ham V Cheshunt Ravens Over 50's Sat 26th Feb 2022

This round Robin Between West Ham A, West Ham B, & Cheshunt Ravens Over 50's Was a tight affair, with the Ravens coming out on top.

The First game saw the Ravens edge out a spirited West Ham side, who Got amongst the Ravens and made it hard for them to play their passing game with any real fluidity.

West Ham A 3 V Ravens 4

The Second game against West Ham B was another tight match, with West Ham having a fair share of the game and taking the lead of their first team by pressing and closing the Ravens on this smallish pitch.  Unfortunately for them the Ravens had a bit too much of the ball and managed to convert a couple of good moves into goals from Roland and Vince.

West Ham B 1 V 2 Ravens

The Third game was played between West Ham A & West Ham B, With the A team edging out their second string..

This meant the play off for the Bragging rights was between West Ham A and Cheshunt Ravens.

The Final game was a much tighter game, with West ham taking a shock lead and holding on to it for a good spell of the game.  The Ravens finally got their game back on track towards the end of the second half with some good goalkeeping from Jeremy Newell and a brace form Colin Moore ensuring the Ravens finished the day with a three out of three wins record.

Goal Scorers for the Ravens today: Cem, Roland, Brendan, Colin Moore (2) & Vince (3).

Thanks to Jonathon Sands for taking the pictures, which was difficult through the cage Fencing.

Saturday 12th Feb 2022 :  over 50's & 60's Friendlies away to buntingford

We traveled down the A 10 to Buntingford this morning for a double fixture between our 50's & 60's sides.  This was also the day we used our brand new sponsored kit for the first time, Swapping red and black, for the new Red and white colour scheme, so if nothing else, we at least looked the part!

Having lost Jeremy, our 50's Keeper through injury, we had to shuffle the pack and put Alam with to 50's and call on our friend, the Welwyn goalkeeper "Ivan" who done a great job for us in the 60's.

Our over 60's were unlucky to lose 2 -1 to a decent Buntingford Over 60's side, who had their goalkeeper to thank after his fine display kept our boys out time and again. Having said that, the Buntingford team played their part in a good end to end game, coming out on top finally, due mainly to them taking their chances better. The Cheshunt goal, was an in off the post effort from Dave Scales who, after putting in a great shift in midfield capped it off with this strike.

Well done to : Ivan, Nick, Kevin, Tony, Ian, Derek, Dave, Andreas.

The over 50's played Buntingford's over 50's and made sure honour's were even with a fine display, that never really saw them troubled. The crisp, quick passing interplay between all of our players kept our opponents very busy and on the back foot for most of the game. The undoubted man of the match, Buntingford's goalkeeper, put on a great display saving many of our efforts, before finally being beaten in the top corner by a fierce strike from Vince after a great inter passing attack from the Ravens team.

Tuesday 8th Feb 2022 : 4 Team Round robin friendly fixtures Away at waltham abbey

Cheshunt Ravens Over 60's 2 V 0 Welwyn walking football club Over 60's

Cheshunt Ravens Over 60's 1 V 1 Waltham Abbey Whites

Cheshunt Ravens Over 60's 9 V 1 Waltham Abbey Orange.

A first outing for the Newly formed Ravens team with this small group of over 60's turned out better than expected.  With just a bare six players we travelled to our near Neighbours Waltham Abbey with some trepidation,  and were just hoping to avoid embarassment against some good opponents but , rather unexpectedly we actually won the tournament with some good performances  bringing us two wins and a draw.

The team of  (L to R) Nick, Tony, Andreas, Vince, Dave Scales and Alam. were all up for it on the day and we stuck to our pressing and passing style of play,  which we had been working on in the training sessions leading up to this fixture.  While it has to be said that we were a little fortunate at times, I think that in the main we got the results we deserved.

The first game against "Extra time Welwyn Walking football club" was a lot closer than the 2 - 0 scoreline would suggest, it was just a case of us making the most of our chance's.

Then our next game against Waltham Abbey was a very one way affair, with our boys in total control but,  being held at bay by a resolute Abbey defence.  Infact we were totally surprised when we went a goal behind to Waltham Abbey's only serious attack of the game  with a scruffy goal.  We then returned the favour as we fluked one in at the other end to level the score, and again, totally  dominated the rest of the encounter without finding the clinical finish required to put the game to bed.

The last game brought us a rather flattering 9 - 1 victory against Waltham Abbey Orange , and it has to be noted that the Abbey side lost the services of their England Squad goalkeeper Jeremy Newell

(see picture below) , who sustained a hand injury when the score was only at 2 - 1 to us.  Without a regular keeper the Abbey side had to put an outfield player with little expeirience between the posts.

Well done to : Alam, Nick, Tony, Dave Scales, Vince & Andreas who all put in a good shift to see us come out on top in this Friendly tournament arranged by our good friends at Waltham Abbey.

Thanks also to Jonathon Sands for his Refereeing.

We came away a happy bunch and grateful to our opponenets and new footballing friends Welwyn Garden.  And we would also like to thank Waltham Abbey for their hospitality and the running of a good tournament.

Above : Group photo of the teams from Extra time Welwyn (Blue) , Waltham Abbey (White & Orange)  and Cheshunt Ravens (Red & Black).
